Washington County will close part of Old Highway 47 between Etters Road and Maple Lane in the Seghers community starting Aug. 8 until approximately Sept. 5, officials say. Travelers headed to Hagg Lake and other local attractions are advised to follow a posted detour sign.
Decades ago, before there was a Hagg Lake, the Seghers community had a gas station and car garage where Lake Stop Grocery, now a 7 Star Convenience store, sits. Plans are in the works to build a new gas station at the site.
In 1925, the city center of Santa Barbara was destroyed in an earthquake. One Dilley man studying law there survived to tell the tale.
