A local school board furiously called the county superintendent when the teacher didn't show on the first day of school. As it turns out, it was their fault: They had botched the opening day of the Hillside school. The teacher wasn't contracted to start until the next week.
Two festivals are expected to bring crowds to Forest Grove's downtown Saturday, with Valley Art's 35th Annual Chalk Art Festival and the 61st Annual Forest Grove Corn Roast kicking off the fall season.

Commencement ceremonies for more than 700 Pacific University students will be held Saturday, May 17, and Forest Grove is expected to be a busy place as friends and families visit the university to celebrate their graduates.
