A reckless wrong-way driver was chased by deputies through Cornelius and Forest Grove before being stopped near Dilley and arrested, the sheriff's office said Friday.
According to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies serving the city of Cornelius located what they described as a reckless driver near South Dogwood Street and South 10th Avenue in Cornelius at 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6.
"The driver was driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic on Baseline Street before running multiple stop signs and speeding," the sheriff's office said.
Police said 34-year-old Brad Dougherty was driving a 2002 Chevy S-10 when deputies attempted to stop him.
What followed was a short chase that took the driver and pursuing deputies from Cornelius, through Forest Grove, ending near Dilley close to the intersection of SW Klickitat Avenue and Highway 47.

There, deputies deployed a pursuit intervention technique (PIT), ending the chase.
Dougherty was taken into custody and lodged at the Washington County Jail in Hillsboro on charges of attempting to elude police, reckless driving, and outstanding warrants for his arrest.
"Additional charges may follow," the sheriff's office said.
Anyone with information about the incident who has not already spoken with deputies was asked to contact the Cornelius police by calling the county's non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 and refer to case number 57-25-813.
