Sign up!The city says some trees must go. Of the 104 trees in the project area, 87 will be trimmed, 19 will be removed and eventually replaced, two will be added, and four will be removed and not replaced to improve traffic safety and protect nearby trees.

Remember those ornate black steel grates that seemed designed to trip people? Those are gone, and they're being replaced by something called Flexible Porous Surface Treatment.
The rounded metal garbage cans are leaving too: This journalist witnessed a tractor loading three of them into a vehicle Wednesday morning. The new ones are rectangular, green, and have flat surfaces that are sure to attract flyers.

The total cost of the project is expected to come in under $500,000.
