Help ReStore ReOrganize

Forest Grove's ReStore is being reorganized and the nonprofit that runs it is looking for volunteers to help move stock and other items on any of four days this month. The time commitment is as short as a single three-hour shift.

Forest Grove's ReStore is being reorganized and the nonprofit that runs it is looking for volunteers to help move stock and other items on any of four days this month.

"Over the coming weeks, the ReStore is changing things up in terms of where things are displayed both inside and outside," said West Tuality Habitat for Humanity spokesperson Jayne Cravens in an email to News in the Grove.

Cravens said volunteers will also help move items that are to be recycled.

"Volunteers, along with staff, will be moving everything from wood to old appliances to plumbing supplies and on and on. It's going to be an opportunity for volunteers to get very physical," she said.

Described as a "flash volunteering event," it will run in three-hour blocks over four days. Volunteers can sign up for one or more of the following days:

9 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12
9 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15
9 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19
9 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22

Volunteers should be able to work on their feet, mostly outdoors, for the full three hours, and be able to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly. There will be rest opportunities inside the air-conditioned ReStore, and safety equipment will be provided.

The ReStore noted that work would stop for days under a heat advisory.

To volunteer, fill out an online waiver and note the days available in the form. Volunteers who have worked in 2025 should already have signed the waiver and need only email volunteer@westtualityhabitat.org with their names and dates they wish to volunteer on.

The ReStore, located on Pacific Avenue just east of Highway 47, supports West Tuality Habitat for Humanity's homeownership programs in western Washington County.

"We help people access homeownership, we help vulnerable homeowners stay in their homes, and we advocate for policies to help more people access homeownership," Cravens said.

The nonprofit is currently building four homes in Forest Grove, has undertaken more than 500 repair projects assisting "elderly homeowners, homeowners with disabilities and low-income homeowners in our service area over the last four years," Cravens said.

The ReStore generates revenue for its programs, and also serves as an outreach opportunity for staff and volunteers to educate shoppers about the nonprofit's work.

"We regularly welcome volunteers in our work," Cravens said.
