The Friends of Historic Forest Grove (FHFG) will host their annual picnic Sunday, Aug. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the A.T. Smith House, featuring chicken, a potluck, and a silent auction.

The Friends of Historic Forest Grove (FHFG) will host their annual picnic Sunday, Aug. 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the A.T. Smith House on the southern end of Elm Street.
The picnic is open to the public, not just members. Fried chicken and drinks are provided, while sides are being handled potluck-style.
"Enjoy an evening filled with fun & games for all ages, a lively silent auction featuring fabulous baskets, and delicious fried chicken with drinks provided," the nonprofit said.
"if your last name starts with A-J, bring a dessert; K-Z, a side dish," FHFG said in a social media announcement.
The group also said that the event would continue in spite of an Extreme Heat Warning that begins Sunday at noon.
A silent auction will be held, with proceeds going to the continued renovation of the A.T. Smith House.
The house, built in 1854, is the second-oldest building in Forest Grove, with only Pacific University's Old College Hall beating it by a few years, according to FHFG.
It's been recognized as a historic home since at least the 1930s, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The A.T. Smith House is located at 240 Elm Street in the community historically known as Carnation.
