The city of Forest Grove is seeking a successor to Forest Grove Police Department Chief Henry Reimann, who plans to retire when a replacement has been found.
"[Chief Henry Reimann] is retiring, He’s been in the business for almost 40 years, and now chief here for five," Forest Grove Police spokesperson Lauren Quinsland told News in the Grove.
Quinsland said his five-year tenure in Forest Grove is considered lengthy for a police chief. His immediate predecessor, Janie Schutz, served for seven years, retiring abruptly amid an acrid dispute with city leaders.
The window to submit an application opened on Oct. 16, and closes Nov. 23.
"After that, any selected candidates move onto an interview process, " Quinsland said.
The job has a salary range of $139,236 to $177,708. A listing for the job noted that an ideal applicant would have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field, and eight years of law enforcement experience, among other qualifications.
The chief manages a department of 38 full-time employees with an annual budget of more than $9.1 million dollars.
"The work you did is just amazing," Forest Grove Mayor Malynda Wenzl told Reimann during a Nov. 10 city council meeting.
Reimann "retired" (a retirement that only lasted a few weeks before he stepped into the role in Forest Grove on an interim basis, which eventually became permanent) from the Hillsboro Police Department in 2019 as a lieutenant. He served there for 31 years, the city of Hillsboro said.
