The city of Forest Grove is opening the city's watershed, locating in the Gales Creek area, to a guided tour on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
The city said space is limited and registration is required by Sept. 23 to secure a spot.
"During the tour, attendees will gain valuable insights into the practices that maintain water quality and support a balanced environment where wildlife can thrive," the city said.
The tour will begin at 8 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Gales Creek Fire Station located at 52155 NW Old Wilson River Rd.
Supplying water to the city and some rural residents in Gales Creek for more than a century, the 4,225-acre watershed, often known as the Clear Creek Watershed, is located to the west of the Gales Creek Cemetery on Soda Springs Road.
Clear Creek, a tributary to Gales Creek, is fed by Roaring, Deep, Thomas, and other streams, and much of the city's water comes from these streams.
Those interested in joining the tour should fill out an online form or contact Deisy Dorado at 503-992-3228 or by email at ddorado@forestgrove-or.gov.
Participants must secure their own transportation for the duration of the tour. The tour features walking though uneven terrain in a remote corner of Washington County with limited or no cell service, and there are no restrooms.
The city said participants should bring weather appropriate clothing, including pants, rugged hiking shoes or boots, and layered clothing and a water bottle and light snack.
