The Forest Grove Police Department said their deputies responded to reports that a woman was shot Sunday afternoon in a parking lot near the corner of Pacific Ave. and Highway 47.
Photos from bystanders shared with News in the Grove showed deputies and emergency responders in the Ace Hardware parking lot.
In a press release issued Monday afternoon, the Forest Grove Police Department said deputies responded to the scene around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21.
"On arrival, officers located an adult who had been shot," the Forest Grove Police Department said.
The victim was transported by helicopter to an area hospital with injuries described by police as life-threatening. Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said a Life Flight Network helicopter had landed at Joseph Gale Elementary School to transport the victim.
"It does not appear to be self inflicted and the victim is still in the hospital," Forest Grove Police Department Sergeant Andrew Colasurdo said in an email to News in the Grove Monday morning.
"There is no threat to the public," Colasurdo said Sunday.
The victim's identity is not being released, the Forest Grove Police Department said.
"Detectives are still working to determine where the shooting occurred," the Forest Grove Police Department said. "This is an open investigation and no additional details will be released at this time."
The department urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Washington County non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111.
The Forest Grove Police Department was also assisted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Hillsboro Police Department, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, and American Medical Response.
