Valley Art elects two new board members, plans for 60th anniversary
The Valley Art Association elected new board members Luis Jimenez and Lynne Taylor during a general meeting held Tuesday, and is planning for a 60th anniversary celebration next year.
Forest Grove's Valley Art Association elected two new board members and reelected four board members at its annual general meeting held Tuesday, July 22.
"This annual meeting is open to the public—not just to members—to ensure transparency and offer the community insight into the nonprofit’s financial standing, prior-year activities, and plans for the coming fiscal year," Valley Art Association President Janet Hickok said in an email to News in the Grove.
Joining the board as new members are Luis Jimenez and Lynne Taylor.
"Both [are] respected local artists and longtime arts advocates," Hickok said.
The agenda featured more than just elections, with a discussion about the 60th anniversary of Valley Art held.
"Looking ahead, Valley Art is preparing to celebrate its 60th Anniversary in 2026 with a month-long series of events culminating in a grand celebration on Saturday, December 5," Hickok, who paints in an abstract expressionist style, said.
Valley Art is considering a multitude of ways to celebrate their founding, which began in 1966 by 12 artists, incorporated in 1968, and has been in its current location since 1984.
A retrospective exhibit of past artists, a Founder's Day event, a short documentary film, special recognitions, and various family-friendly and art-filled events are being planned or considered.
"Planning has just begun, and we’re excited to dive in as the countdown to 60 years begins," Hickok said.

"Valley Art welcomes community involvement, not only through board service but also by volunteering on one of the many committees that support the day-to-day operations of the organization," Hickok said.
