The Growler Garage, a more recent addition to Forest Grove's food and drink scene, has changed hands, and to celebrate, the new owners are throwing a party Sunday, June 8.

Jill and Jerod Verboort have purchased the business at the corner of Pacific Avenue and A street, which was originally expanded from a Gresham location by Ryan and Lacie Thompson.

In a social media post announcing they would take over the spot starting June 1, the new owners thanked the Growler Garage originators for their work in establishing the taphouse.

"Their passion and hard work have created something truly special, and we’re honored to carry on their legacy," the new owners wrote.

To celebrate, a big bash is planned for Sunday, June 8 from 12 p.m. to close.

The event will feature live music from Pure Jasper from 2 to 5 p.m. and Wil Kinky from 7 p.m. to close, prizes and giveaways throughout the day, and of course, drinks on tap.

Find all the details in a Facebook event created for the open house.

News in the Grove caught up with Jill Verboort via email for a last-minute interview before the Sunday party kicks off their new ownership. We've included the interview here in its entirety with minor editing for grammar and readability.

News in the Grove: What made you want to buy The Growler Garage?

Jill Verboort: We’ve always loved The Growler Garage — not just for the great beer, but for the way it brings the community together. When the opportunity came up to purchase it, it felt like the perfect fit. It’s a beloved local spot in Jerod’s hometown, and we saw a chance to not only continue something special, but to add our own energy and heart to it.

News in the Grove: Are there changes patrons can expect under your ownership?

JV: At its core, The Growler Garage isn’t changing — the laid-back vibe, great selection, and community feel will all stay the same. But we are bringing some fun updates, like fresh events, more live music, and some surprises in the works to make it an even better place to hang out. We’re also focused on making every guest feel welcome, whether they’re a regular or walking in for the first time.

News in the Grove: Is this the first food-based business you’ve ever owned?

JV: Yes! This is our first venture into the food and beverage world, but we’re bringing with us a ton of business experience, a deep love for people, and a genuine passion for making this place thrive. We’re learning a lot and loving every minute of it.

The Growler Garage is located underneath the Jesse Quinn Apartments at 1837 Pacific Ave, Suite 133.
