The Oregon Department of Forestry is sending six strike teams of firefighters and equipment to California, on the heels of 12 strike teams dispatched by the Oregon State Fire Marshal Wednesday morning.
"We are all glad to see it go," said ODF Forest Grove District Forester Mike Cafferata in an email sent Tuesday as the agency filed the appropriate paperwork to officially close the 2024 fire season.
The Jewell School District in the Clatsop State Forest predicts it could lose nearly $1 million in revenue if a plan to scale back logging is implemented.
Fire crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry, including one local firefighter based out of the Forest Grove District, are still in Texas as of Monday, helping other fire agencies battle deadly wildfires that have wracked the state.
The Oregon Department of Forestry sent a strike team of 16 firefighters and five engines to Amarillo, Texas Friday to aid the state's firefighters as they grapple with massive wildfires, including one crew member who works out of the local Forest Grove District.
