A group of state and federal agencies are responding to reports of an unknown tar-like substance washing up along Oregon's North Coast, extending southward to areas as far as the Salishan Spit, and also along Washington's southern coast.
The next meeting of the Gales Creek Community Club will be held Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Gales Creek Library. The group will also jointly meet with the Gales Creek Neighborhood Watch. Most of the leadership of the community club and the neighborhood watch is involved in both groups.

As of 8 p.m., Darcey Edwards had what appears to be an insurmountable lead over Aaron Hall, with the Banks-area Edwards leading in initial results published just after 8 p.m. with 80.85% of the vote to North Plains resident Hall's 18.29%.
Those looking to cast a vote must either drop their signed ballot in one of numerous ballot drop boxes scattered across the county or mail it, as long as it is postmarked by 8 p.m. Tuesday night.
