The search for Forest Grove resident Thomas Weightman, missing since Tuesday, was suspended Sunday evening, the Forest Grove Police Department said late Monday morning.

"Over the six-day search, approximately 800 personnel responded and assisted in attempting to locate Thomas. The incident has been turned back over to Forest Grove Police Department Detectives. This is standard procedure and foul play is not suspected," the Forest Grove Police Department said.

"Anyone who sees Thomas is asked to call 911. Anyone with information that is not time sensitive is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111," the department said.

Weightman was reported missing by his family the evening of Tuesday, October 14 after he went for a walk that morning and did not return.

Officers were able to make brief contact with Weightman by phone.

"Thomas said he fell and was unsure of his location," the department said, noting that efforts to locate him by using his cellphone information failed.

On the third day of the search, the Washington County Sheriff's Office asked that Gales Creek and Hillside-area residents search their properties for Weightman.

"The Forest Grove Police Department would first and foremost like to thank the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for leading the search and rescue efforts.  The search also included assistance from the Hillsboro Police Department, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Hood River Sheriff’s Office, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Civil Air Patrol, Mountain Wave Rescue, Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department, Federal Partners, Oregon State Police and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office," the department said.

"The Washington County Sheriff's Office is grateful to all the agencies that supported the search efforts for Thomas Weightman and SAR will be responsive to any new leads," the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a social media statement.

"We want to thank the community for sharing information and assisting during this search. Your care and attention help make a difference in moments like these. Our hearts are with Mr. Weightman's family and friends," the sheriff's office added.

"This is an ongoing investigation and updates will be released as they become available," the Forest Grove Police Department added.
