One person is dead and another has been arrested following a crash Wednesday night near Dilley.
According to an Oregon State Police press release, the two-vehicle crash occurred near milepost 22 on Highway 47, an area just south of Dilley.
State police responded to the crash just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Oregon State Police, which was not made public and was not reviewed by News in the Grove, Martin Santizo Santizo, of Gervais was driving a Ford Econoline van north toward Dilley, crossed the centerline, and sideswiped a Dodge Ram 1500 operated by Francisco Javier Romero, 27, of McMinnville.
"The collision caused the Dodge to roll and eject the operator," OSP said.
Romero was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ford's driver, Santizo Santizo and a passenger, Pedro Lucas Alonso, 20, also of Gervais, were reportedly uninjured, OSP said.
A spokesperson for Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said one person was transported from the scene with nonlife threatening injuries.
Santizo Santizo was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, and Criminally Negligent Homicide, and lodged in the Washington County Jail.
"Operator impairment is considered a primary cause of the crash," OSP said.
Highway 47 was closed for about 10 hours, with a detour from Old Highway 47 to Scoggins Valley Road and back onto Highway 47.
Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Forest Grove Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation aided OSP, the agency said, and Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said Gaston aided their efforts as well.
