The Hillsboro Police Department identified a motorcycle driver killed in a crash in Hillsboro on Monday as Forest Grove resident Carlos Andres Marquez-Vargas, age 20.

According to a press release, Hillsboro Police Department officers responded to a traffic crash on Hwy 26 between SE Cornelius Pass Rd and NW 185th Ave on Monday, Oct. 20.

"Officers arrived and located the motorcycle rider in the roadway," the Hillsboro Police Department said. "The rider sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene," the department added.

Police believe Marquez-Vargas rear-ended a vehicle — citing speed as a factor in the crash — and lost control, where he fell from his bike and was struck by two westbound vehicles. The drivers involved in the scene remained on scene and are cooperating with investigators, police said.

The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) was called to investigate the crash, and spent about six hours at the scene, closing the westbound lanes of the highway for the duration.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it was asked to call Ofc. Jim Ruiz or Sgt. Paul Hess at 503-681-6175 and reference Hillsboro Police Department case #25-20832.
