The Forest Grove Aquatic Center opened Monday, just in time for the tail end of a heat wave.

The center has been undergoing renovation since it closed in early March.

The facility includes two pools, a hot tub, a splash park, water slides, a sauna, a birthday rental room, and more.

The city had hoped to reopen the pool June 2, but didn't quite make the deadline.

Now, with the pool back open June 9, aquatic center staff plan to hand out otter pops during the 7:15 - 8:45 p.m. public swim.

The spray park will also be open during those hours, which features geysers and arch jets, painted playground games and toys, and a picnic area, according to the city's summer activity guide (.pdf).

Originally built in the 1960s according to city documents, there were several issues that prompted the closure, including 50 year-old-pool tile that needed to be replaced due to cracks and erosion.

The Forest Grove Aquatic Center is located at 2300 Sunset Drive.
