CBAP to host community service day across four local parks
A community service day hosted across four parks in Forest Grove and Cornelius on Tuesday by the Community Based Activities Program (CBAP) offers a unique opportunity to support a local food bank, learn more about a 35-year-old nonprofit, and douse Forest Grove's mayor with a bucket of water.

Have you ever wanted to dump a bucket of water on Forest Grove Mayor Malynda Wenzl's head? Typically, you shouldn't, but for a brief window Tuesday morning, it's encouraged.
That's due to a community service day hosted across four parks in Forest Grove and Cornelius by the Community Based Activities Program (CBAP), a 35-year-old Forest Grove nonprofit.
The CBAP Community Service Day will be held Tuesday, July 29, with most activities running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"We are an inclusive summer camp that gets students of all ability levels out and about into the community for a summer full of adventure," said Program Director Kiley Booth in an email to News in the Grove.
Booth said the program now serves up to 160 students every summer.
In years past, the nonprofit has hosted smaller community service days with individual classes, Booth told News in the Grove during a phone call.
This year's effort, spread across four parks, is the largest yet, and is something of a pilot program for a larger event.
Rogers Park/Anna & Abby's Yard
At Rogers Park (also known as Anna and Abby's Yard) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., high school-aged CBAP participants will host "The Soaker Seat," a contraption that dumps a bucket of water on one of three "community celebrities." They include Mayor Malynda Wenzl starting at 9 a.m., followed by CBAP founder Brad Bafaro, a well-known nonprofit leader, former educator, and until a month ago, Forest Grove School Board director.
"CBAP is an easy organization to support," Wenzl said in an email to News in the Grove. "They have been providing summer learning experiences for youth of all abilities for the last 30 years. I will always support inclusion, students, and Forest Grove," the mayor added.
Rogers Park is located at 2421 17th Avenue in Forest Grove.
Lincoln Park
Lincoln Park will host a donation-based lemonade stand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lincoln Park is located at 2725 Main Street in Forest Grove.
Mariposa Park
At Cornelius' Mariposa Park, CBAP will host a student art sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The student-made art includes a cold drink with purchase.
Mariposa Park is located at 1297 S Quartz Drive in Cornelius.
Harleman Park
A canned food drive and a snack shack will be located in Cornelius' Harleman Park. According to a poster for the event, the snack shack is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. only.
Canned food and donations are accepted.
Harleman Park is located at 795 S Heather Street in Cornelius
All donations from the event will go to Taste and See Local, a Forest Grove food bank.
